An exploration of the urban architectural landscape of Dublin through the lens of a generation that is locked out of home ownership. Through expanded printmaking and material research of barriers and advertisement, the work explores questions of belonging and attachment, navigating what it means to live in Ireland as a young person during this prolonged period of rapid flux and unease.
The work criticises and highlights the unattainability of the Irish housing market, reflecting the physical and political shifts within the city’s architectural and domestic fabric. Drawing on the visual advertising language of the Irish property market and changing architectural styles, the work situates itself within a fragmented, mismatched and often contradictory urban environment, capturing a collective experience of existing within these spaces that are overshadowed by precarity and neoliberal forces.
